Garden Hose Storage Using Decorative Pots

Most people think garden hose reels are the only way to store a garden hose - well, it certainly is what most people do. But if you don't really like the look of your garden hose either hanging on the wall for all to see, or you don't appreciate the designs of the many garden hose reel carts made today, you will pleased to know that you have another option.

Many of the more visually aware gardeners have started using what is called a garden hose storage pot. What is this, you ask? Something new and revolutionary? Not really - it is simply a pot made of clay or other material, put to use as a form of storage for a garden hose. The idea is to simply coil up the hose inside the pot when not in use. This way it is out of sight - and out of harms way too. You see, a very good reason to store you water hose somehow, and not just leave it lying on the ground, is to protect it. Coiled up and stowed away, it will not accidentally be cut in half by the lawnmower, run over by something heavy or even stolen. It is also concealed from view, which can be a good thing if you don't particularly like looking at it. Some people feel that the impression of a good garden is ruined by the presence of a lot of tools and equipment standing around, and I tend to agree. The more eyesores you can easily get out of the way, the more enjoyable you garden will be.

A future garden hose storage pot?

What is the downside to a garden hose storage pot? Not many, but I guess it is not as portable a solution as a reel cart, and the work of coiling theĀ  hose is not as easy and hands-free. Having to handle a garden hose can be a muddy experience, which would lead some to consider getting a retractable garden hose instead. You should also make sure that any water gathering in the pot can be drained away somehow, or the hose could get quite slimey from lying in old rainwater. You might drill a hole in the bottom of the pot to overcome this problem.

All in all, a storage pot could be a good solution for discerning owners of smaller gardens who want to get that ugly hose out of sight asap. It certainly is a both easy and cheap solution.
